I always like simple steps. Even when it comes to making decisions. Here’s 4 Steps To Avoid A Bad Decision.
Our lives are defined by the decisions we make. In order to make good decisions sometimes we need to learn how to avoid making bad ones.
In this 3 Minute Mini, I want to take a look at a few verses from Proverbs 7 that give us keys on how to avoid making a bad decision.
Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths
4 Steps To Avoid A Bad Decision
Obviously there are more than 4 things you need to do and know to avoid a bad decision, but here are 4 that should rank in the Top 10.
Step #1: Hearken Unto Me
The term ‘hearken’ carries a lot of weight. It implies something more than merely hearing words. It indicates a mindset of intention and priority.
Here’s my takeaway:
- Get Good Counsel on Issues
- Be Teachable
- Don’t Let Pride Get In Your Way
Step #2: Now
There is a sense of urgency in this word. Some things just can’t be put off until later.
If you are going to avoid bad decisions, you need to learn how to take action when action is needed.
- Don’t Put Off Doing What You Know Needs To Be Done
- Learn To Take Action and Stop Simply Dreaming
Step #3: Attend To The Words Of My Mouth
God is speaking in these verses. We need to make the Bible a priority.
The scripture says that God is the one who gives wisdom. So if we want to walk in wisdom and make good decisions we must fill our minds with God’s Word so we can learn to think like God thinks.
- Cultivate A Habit of Bible Study and Reading
- Fill Your Mind With God’s Word
- Memorize and Meditate [2 Twin Powers of Life Change]
Step #4: Let Not Your Heart Decline
This is set in the context of warning against a seductress woman, but the application and implication go much deeper.
One of the ways we can guard our hearts to keep them from declining (a pointed choice of words if you ask me…decline means to ‘go down’), is to realize that our emotions are just ‘things.’
We tend to define our lives by how we feel. This is dangerous to say the least.
Emotions are things. They are not YOU. You have emotions, but always remember that emotions come and go because they are feelings and you are more than a feeling. You are a spiritual being.
Learn to live above and beyond your feelings. This is what it means to live by faith.
- Get and Stay In Control Of Your Emotions
- Realize Emotions Are Simply a Part of You But Not You
- Don’t Allow Wounds, Hurts and Disappointments To Define You
There you have it. 4 Steps To Avoid A Bad Decision.
